This winter has, by far, been the snowiest I’ve seen here in Toronto. In fact, it’s almost the snowiest on record, reports the Toronto Star. Even after last weekend’s tempest, we’re still short. According to the Star:
“…Toronto remains 17.8 centimetres short of the all-time snowiest winter in recorded history, when 207.4 centimetres fell during the winter of 1938-39.”
We’ve put up with so much already, I think it would be a shame to not break the record seeing as we’ve come so close. I’m sure I’m in the minority saying that, but hey, I’m a winter kind of guy!

I had my first close-up look at an Infiniti EX35 today, and I have to say I’m pretty impressed. This thing has good looks, tons of power, all wheel drive and gadgets galore!
I didn’t get a test drive, but since the body is based on the G35 and even has the same powerful 297hp v6 engine, I’m guessing it would have a very similar feel.
The interior was quite nice and refined. It was dusk when I saw the car (I’m going to say it’s closer to a car than it is a truck) and the gauges were nicely lit in white and blue. I’m a big fan of Infiniti’s colour scheme; I can’t stand red gauges and buttons found on some other cars.
I got a brief demo on the around view (aka bird’s-eye view) system and Infiniti sure did some nice work on this. Using four cameras, the system builds a 360° image of the surroundings. It really is amazing to see in action. A larger rear view display is also present when reversing, and virtual guides are overlaid to indicate where the car will go based on the steering angle. This is pretty handy in tight spaces, though I’m not sure I’d need it especially considering this option requires the highest option package. This package includes lane departure prevention and intelligent cruise control, which although very cool, are things I’ll probably not need.
It was a very brief demo, but I was quite impressed. I’ll definitely have to take this one out for a real test drive!

The paint is dry, and the renovations are finished! My photoblog has undergone some renovations but they’re all done now. It even has a fancy new name: RAWPixels
I’m in the process of migrating photos from the old photoblog, but this will take some time so bear with me.
The new site includes some new features such as:
- Photo ratings – Feel free to rate my photos if you like or dislike them. Just click on the stars in the upper right corner.
- Image Info – Although I was fairly diligent in stating the major image properties in the old site (focal length, aperture, ISO), this site will do it automatically and will provide even more info.
- Thumbnails in RSS feeds – I’m done with polluting your RSS readers with humongous images. This site now provides smaller thumbnails in the RSS feeds.
Expect the site to become more refined over time as I tweak it. I value any feedback you might have about it, so please let me know.

Saturday Night Live sometimes play Digital Shorts between live skits and commercials. Andy Samberg seems to have a knack for making these. Did you know that you’re likely using only a small fraction of your computer’s processing power at any given time? It’s true, see for yourself: press Ctrl + Alt + Del at the same time and then click on the “Task Manager” button to bring up the Windows task manager. Under the Performance tab you’ll see some graphs. The top left graph is your CPU usage and it’s probably around 10% or less.
This means that about 90% of your computer’s processing power is not being utilized, which is fine, but you could be helping to cure cancer, or AIDS, create new drugs for a plethora of other uses, or even solve global warming. How? In two words: distributed computing.
